We are seeking a highly organized and analytical Cost Accountant / Estimator to join our shipyard operations team in Pascagoula. This mid-level role plays a critical part in supporting the estimating and contracting process by developing accurate cost models, preparing detailed bid proposals, and ensuring alignment with contract requirements. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of accounting expertise, shipyard or industrial experience, and strong communication skills to a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop detailed cost estimates for ship repair and construction projects based on labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor quotes. Work closely with project managers, engineers, procurement, and production teams to gather accurate inputs and validate assumptions. Analyze historical cost data to improve pricing models and support budgeting and forecasting activities. Prepare pricing components and supporting documentation for formal contract proposals and bid packages. Review contract terms and conditions to identify cost-related impacts and compliance requirements. Assist with contract change orders, including scope modifications, pricing adjustments, and supporting justifications. Maintain organized records of estimates, cost tracking data, and bid documentation. Support financial reporting related to project cost performance, margin analysis, and variance tracking. Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance estimating accuracy and efficiency.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered. Minimum 2-4 years of experience in cost estimating, accounting, or project controls, preferably in a shipyard, construction, or industrial environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP, estimating, or project management software is a plus. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical data and translate it into cost elements. Working knowledge of contract structures, pricing models, and cost accounting principles. Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
