Job Description
Senior Estimator –
Rebar Position Overview:
The Senior Estimator plays a critical role in the success of our rebar fabrication operations by delivering precise and competitive estimates that align with project requirements and business objectives. This position requires a highly experienced professional with at least 5 years of rebar estimating experience and a strong technical background in interpreting complex contract documents, preparing material take-offs, and utilizing estimating software like aSa (or equivalent). The Senior Estimator collaborates closely with internal teams, external detailers, and clients to ensure accurate pricing and seamless project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimating & Technical Duties:
- Analyze and interpret contract documents, including structural, civil, and architectural plans, to ensure accurate project estimates.
- Perform detailed material take-offs for rebar, welded wire mesh, and related accessories using estimating software (e.g., aSa or equivalent).
- Develop precise and competitive cost estimates based on project specifications, labor considerations, and market pricing trends.
- Prepare comprehensive bid proposals , including pricing breakdowns, alternative value engineering solutions, and risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards , project requirements, and company policies in all estimates and submittals.
Collaboration & Project Coordination:
- Work closely with project owners, managers, and estimating teams to ensure accurate communication of project scope, material requirements, and scheduling needs.
- Coordinate with external vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing and lead times.
- Assist in preparing and managing submittals, RFIs, and project drawings , ensuring all documentation is aligned with contract requirements.
- Support the sales and operations teams by providing technical expertise and contributing to pre-construction planning.
Process Improvement & Industry Knowledge:
- Continuously evaluate and improve estimating processes , identifying opportunities to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, material costs, and best practices to maintain a competitive edge in pricing and project execution.
- Train and mentor junior estimators, sharing knowledge and best practices to strengthen the estimating team.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of rebar estimating experience within the construction or fabrication industry.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as aSa, Soule, or equivalent .
- Strong understanding of reinforcing steel standards, fabrication processes, and installation methods .
- Excellent ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents .
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail .
- Ability to work under tight deadlines , prioritize tasks, and manage multiple estimates simultaneously.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and other estimating tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with value engineering and cost-saving strategies in rebar estimation.
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards , such as CRSI, ASTM, and ACI.
- Prior experience working in a fabrication or construction company specializing in rebar.
This is a full-time, 40-hour work week position.
