Position Summary:
As a Piping/Mechanical Estimator, you will play a key role in the successful execution of capital and maintenance projects by delivering accurate cost estimates for piping, equipment installation, and mechanical scopes. You will evaluate technical drawings, perform job walkdowns, and prepare estimates at various project stages—from conceptual through execution—ensuring alignment with client expectations and budgetary goals. This position requires close collaboration with project controls, construction, and client teams to support schedule-driven work in a highly regulated chemical manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare accurate piping and mechanical estimates across the full project lifecycle (conceptual, preliminary, detailed design, and execution phases). Conduct job site walkdowns for scope definition, constructability, and verification of field conditions. Interpret P&IDs, piping isometrics, equipment layouts, and engineering drawings to build discipline-specific cost estimates. Utilize client-specific platforms such as EstWeb and standard industry tools to generate cost models and work breakdown structures (WBS). Apply appropriate labor factors and productivity metrics based on manpower loading, resource constraints, and project schedules. Develop and revise control estimates, forecasts, and change orders (PCNs) to track scope and budget alignment. Collaborate with construction and project controls teams to support estimate-to-completion (ETC) analysis and project performance evaluations. Support the integration of estimates into Primavera P6 schedules and resource loading models. Contribute to project close-out through lessons learned and benchmarking data capture.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of industrial experience in construction estimating within chemical, petrochemical, pulp & paper, or other heavy industrial settings. Strong knowledge of piping fabrication, mechanical equipment installation, and related construction means and methods. Proficient in estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and cost-tracking platforms such as EstWeb. Familiarity with Primavera P6 and resource loading is an asset. Able to read and interpret technical documentation including P&IDs, piping isometrics, structural drawings, and vendor data sheets. Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across client, engineering, and field teams. Detail-oriented with excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management abilities. Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent field experience considered.
