Job Description
Review plans and specifications to determine material quantities, labor hours, and itemized costs. Attend pre-bid meetings and visit project sites to assess how existing conditions will affect the scope and estimated cost of the work. Perform quantity takeoff and pricing for mechanical work on projects, including piping and equipment installation. Prepare subcontractor/supplier bid invitation lists. Clarify design errors, omissions, and ambiguities prior to finalizing the estimate. Review subcontractors’ and vendors’ scope of work to ensure a full understanding of the project. Adjust the standard cost database based on the risk and difficulty of the actual work. Assist in drafting subcontracts and purchase orders for new projects. Prepare packages of the estimate and plans to hand over to project managers and field personnel, ensuring they have a complete understanding of the scope and estimate. Understand that this role may require more than 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week. Ability to review plans and specifications, and to analyze and accurately compute costs in a timely manner using a computerized database. Proficiency in calculating figures and amounts, including interest, percentages, basic algebra, and geometry.
