The Trades Specialist position is an intermediate level technician position and is essential to the daily operations of the Facilities Operations Division. The employee in this position provides preventive and corrective maintenance on all general facility conditions.
Specific examples of work include:
roof inspection and repair, glass replacement, wall repairs and painting, cabinet making and millwork, welding repairs of various types, construction of offices and other needed spaces.
The construction includes:
wall framework, sheetrock installation, ceiling grid and tile installation and various flooring system installations.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES A
successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to do a variety of skilled maintenance work.
Considerable knowledge of the materials, tools and methods used in a building trade such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical troubleshooting or in grounds maintenance.
Working knowledge of one or more additional trades.
Ability to work from plans and specifications.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Knowledgeable of plumbing vocabulary, the ability to read and interpret mechanical and structural blueprints, and plan plumbing repairs and modifications.
Ability to read blueprints and sketches related to construction projects in order to assist in the preparation of materials estimates.
Must have ability to perform simple to complex movements requiring moderate coordination.
Must have visual perception and ability to discriminate colors.
Must be able to perceive and discriminate odors/sounds.
Must be able to perform manual labor for extended periods of time as required by work assignments.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
The essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Performs monthly preventive maintenance on roof systems to clear debris and proactively identify service issues.
Makes routine repairs to roofing systems. Prepares and paints interior and exterior surfaces. Chooses materials, selects and matches paint colors, removes old paint, cleans, fills, and primes surfaces. Applies paint and/or stain. Demonstrates keen knowledge of color theory to advise customers and achieve the appearance the customer desires. Levels and ensures integrity of subfloors. Uses commercial scraping machines, tile cutters, heating torches, pry bars, and various hand tools to remove existing flooring substrates. Applies knowledge of commercial flooring for installation and repair of various floor types including VCT, sheet good carpets, carpet square tiles, ceramic tile, and linoleum. Assists with material estimates and selection based on use/wear requirements. Uses, and performs operator maintenance on, tools and equipment common to the trade. Completes daily work orders which include but are not limited to: performing preventive maintenance and making adjustments to commercial doors, roll-up doors and openers, interior and exterior painting as needed, installing wall hangings such as dry-erase boards, door glass replacement, as well as escorting outside contractors doing work at Forsyth County facilities. Participates in special projects and general maintenance and making repairs to building facilities. Assists Skilled Trades Specialists in completing tasks and responsibilities. Performs related work as required.
