Cullman, AL Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler Cuts workpiece using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments Observes tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors Perform other duties as required and assigned Education and/or

Work Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred 2+ years’ experience operating as a commercial fitter Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures Must be able to read an assemble to blueprints Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers, etc.) Deftness and attention to detail Current and valid certification a plus

Success Factors and Competencies:

Must be able to make amperage and voltage adjustments to welding equipment to provide optimal weld penetration in relationship to various steel thickness Follow welding procedure specifications in designated fabrication areas Ability to complete projects with little or no supervision Must be able to operate all welding equipment

Physical Requirements:

Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards Steel toe boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection are required at all times Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
