The ideal candidate will be responsible for positioning, aligning, and fitting structural steel components according to blueprints and layout specifications in preparation for welding and final assembly. Key Responsibilities:
- Read, understand, and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, and specifications to determine job requirements.
- Layout, position, align, and secure structural steel parts and assemblies using tools such as straightedges, squares, levels, clamps, and jacks.
- Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications using measuring instruments.
- Maneuver components into position using hoisting and rigging equipment, potentially directing crane operators.
- Prepare materials for welding by grinding, cutting, or drilling as needed.
- Ensure all fitted components meet precise alignment and tolerance requirements.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and site regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Structural Steel Fitter or in a similar role within the construction or fabrication industry.
- Must possess the ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Proficient in the use of fitting tools, measuring devices, and layout techniques.
- Strong understanding of structural steel shapes, connection types, and assembly sequences.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, potentially including working at heights or in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA 10 Construction certification is preferred.
- Welding skills or certifications (e.g., tack welding) are a plus.
- Experience with rigging and signaling is advantageous.
Compensation:
- Competitive hourly pay rate between $25.
