Job Summary We are seeking a skilled Shipfitter to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in metal fabrication and assembly, with the ability to read and interpret schematics. As a Shipfitter, you will play a crucial role in the construction and repair of ships, ensuring that all components are fitted accurately and efficiently. Requirements Proficiency in sheet metal work and fabrication techniques. Ability to rig components safely for installation or repair tasks. Strong understanding of schematics and technical drawings. Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and stand for extended periods. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Responsibilities Fabricate and assemble metal structures according to specifications and blueprints. Interpret and work from schematics to ensure precise fitting of components. Perform heavy lifting and maneuvering of materials as required during the fitting process. Collaborate with other craftsmen to ensure the proper fabrication of steel and aluminum vessels. Conduct routine maintenance on tools and equipment used in the fitting process. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean work environment. What to expect in this role Working in a non-air-conditioned buildingway and occasionally in the sun outside the buildingway. Working on ladders. Working occasionally on elevated scaffolding to heights of approximately 50 feet. Climbing stairways to vessels of approximately 50 feet up and working aboard vessels at this height. Carrying equipment/tools of varying weights at approximately 20lbs. up to 50 lbs. Working in tight spaces with kneeling, squatting, crawling, bending and reaching overhead while utilizing tools and/or equipment. Assembling and installing various parts of a vessel such as hulls, frames and decking Use of various tools and equipment, including welding machines, cutting torches, drills, drill presses and grinders, etc. What will set you apart from other candidates The ability to weld steel and/or aluminum components. Welding certification(s). Experience in the shipbuilding industry. Safety certification(s). Other skills or licenses related to the construction of steel and aluminum vessels. Prior leadership roles. The ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical documents accurately. The ability to travel approximately 10 days out of the year or as needed.
