Job Title:
Fitter Job Description Working onsite, cutting, grinding metal structural parts to include plates, bulkheads, strong back, turnbuckles and come-alongs. Aligns parts in relation to each other. Performs layout work according to blueprints or reference lines. Tack and weld foundation and structural members. Marks location of holes to be drilled, drives wedges and installs temporary fasteners to hold parts in place for welding and riveting. Ability to work at heights and in confined areas and access and move around ship safely. Responsibilities Cut and grind metal structural parts including plates, bulkheads, strong backs, turnbuckles, and come-alongs. Align parts in relation to each other. Perform layout work according to blueprints or reference lines. Tack and weld foundation and structural members. Mark location of holes to be drilled, drive wedges, and install temporary fasteners to hold parts in place for welding and riveting. Work safely at heights and in confined areas on the ship. Essential Skills 3+ years of experience as a fitter. Ability to read blueprints and understand ship layout with compartment identification. Proficient in using hand and power tools safely and efficiently. Good burning, welding, and craftsmanship skills. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to work in tight and remote locations.
