Openwork is currently engaged in a search to find a Scrapyard Torch Operator in Locust Grove, GA. In this role, you will be responsible for operating a torcher for precision cutting of different metals. Apply today if you meet the qualifications listed below. In a Scrapyard Torch Operator job you’ll be responsible for: Setting up and preparing equipment. Positioning and securing metal pieces in a clear designated cutting zone.
Configuring and inspecting oxy-fuel or plasma torch systems, including regulators, hoses, and tips

• ensuring no leaks, cracks, or damage.
  Using the torcher to cut ferrous and non
• ferrous metals to required sizes and shapes per specifications or job instructions.
  Following provided work orders or blueprints, adjusting flame, feed, and speed for efficiency and accuracy.
  Wearing full PPE
• face shield, flame
• retardant clothing, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, hard hat and steel toe boots.

Checking torch components before each use, clean or replace worn tips immediately.
Separating and sorting metal by type, cutting out contaminants or unwanted sections.
Removing flammables from the area and ensuring proper ground conditions. What you’ll need: Proven experience using oxy-fuel or plasma torches in a scrapyard, metal shop or industrial environment.
Proficient in operating oxy

• acetylene torches, cutting ferrous and non ferrous materials to mill or shipping specs.

Must have knowledge in metal types.
Ability to troubleshoot and maintain torch components.
Basic mechanical tool knowledge. Strong understanding of Hot Work Safety practices including fire watch and spark containment.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must be comfortable working in outdoor environment. Ability to stand, bend, and reach for extended periods.
