Shipyard Fitter/Tacker GLO Resources LLC Lettsworth, LA 70753 Glo Resources is currently hiring experienced Fitter/Tacker to work in Lettsworth, LA. The pay rate is between $25
- 27 per hour depending on experience. The schedule is Monday
- Friday, 7:00 am
- 3:30 pm with occasional overtime depending on project deadlines.

Position Summary:
We are looking for a reliable and experienced Fitter/Tacker to support repair, retrofit, and work on new fabrication projects for marine inland vessels including barges, towboats, and associated marine structures. This position is responsible for laying out, fitting, and tacking metal components to meet structural and safety specifications. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, safety-oriented, and comfortable working in a dynamic shipyard environment.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Measure, cut, and fit steel components using torches, grinders, and plasma cutters. Verify dimensions and fit using measuring tools such as squares, levels, and tape measures. Tack and fit-up structural components such as frames, bulkheads, tanks, and decks prior to welding. Perform welding using SMAW (stick), FCAW (flux core), and MIG processes. Set up jigs, clamps, and fixtures to maintain alignment and prevent distortion. Work in confined spaces, on scaffolds, and in elevated positions as needed. Follow all shipyard safety procedures including hot work permitting, confined space entry, and use of PPE Assist in vessel dry-docking and launch preparations when required. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition Ability to work in Shipyard and outdoor environment with exposure to heat, cold, noise, fumes, and all-weather conditions. Must wear PPE and adhere to strict safety practices
Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in welding and structural fitting, preferably in a marine or industrial environment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting fabrication drawings, ship drawings, blueprints, and layout plan to determine fitting and welding requirements. Ability to work with carbon steel plates and structural shapes Familiarity with standard shipyard tools and equipment. Ability to pass company-administered welding and fitting tests. Experience with barge or towboat fabrication/repair. Current welding certifications preferred (AWS, ABS, or equivalent). Familiarity with marine regulatory requirements (e.g., USCG, ABS). Forklift or crane operation experience a plus.
Physical Requirements:
This position involves regular physical activity, including: Standing for prolonged periods. Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, working in tight spaces, confined spaces, at heights, and crouching. Shipyard-based with exposure to outdoor conditions in variable weather, heavy equipment, noise, and welding fumes. Pushing and pulling heavy objects. Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
