Position Description:
As a Tank Setter, this position provides service, delivery and installation and/or repair to customer’s propane tank/s and/or LP piping. The Apprentice Tank Setter works closely with the Pro Tank Setter and Service Technician to provide a safe, speedy, and one and done experience to the customer .Due to the seasonal nature of tank setting, Apprentice Tank Setters may also use the winter months to pursue additional professional certifications or training to branch out into Service Technician or Driver work. The responsibilities of this position are carried out with particular attention to caring for customer property and working as a trusted advisor. Ultimately, we want The Tank Setter to provide a wonderful customer experience, one that leads our customers to rave about us on social media or to their friends and family. + As an Apprentice Tank Setter this position assists the Pro Tank Setter with safety and efficiency tests, propane tank sets and hook-ups, tank pick-ups and evacuations in accordance with applicable codes, safety regulations and Dead River Company policies. + Eliminates call-backs and reduces liability by ensuring that all work is performed safely and accurately. + Actively participates in training programs to gain new skills in order to be most effective in role. + Promotes image as a trusted advisor through a neat appearance, clean uniform, and timely, safe and courteous service. + Promotes Dead River company propane products and services. Advises customers on best options for specific needs. + Maintains a clean and well-organized vehicle. Ensures that all tools and equipment are in safe operating condition. + On call and overtime may be required to meet customer demand. + Performs all job functions according to state and federal regulations and company policy. Reports all accidents, spills, and liability claims. Performs other work-related duties as assigned. This position regularly interacts with customers, other employees (dispatchers, other technicians, drivers, and office personnel) and equipment and parts supply vendors. These interactions will be timely to allow for appropriate follow-through. Employees will show empathy where appropriate. Apprentice Tank Setters may assist their Pro Tank Setters to make decisions regarding the appropriate steps required for transporting and installing LP tanks, performing safety inspections, and commissioning equipment. Complex problems or unusual customer-related issues are referred to the Service Manager or other appropriate parties. Safety considerations relate to safe operation of the service vehicle, wearing appropriate personal protective safety equipment, proper lifting of heavy parts or equipment, and general observation of the surroundings where work is being done. Icy and slippery conditions are a primary concern during winter. Industry related equipment including all types of hand tools, testing equipment, soldering torches, power tools, evacuation equipment, along with appropriate gauges and meters. Delivery vehicle and hose/nozzle, loading rack, priming equipment, wrenches, safety equipment (glasses, gloves, hard hat, shovel, speedy dry), and chock blocks. Temperatures may vary from below zero to above 90 degrees, depending on the time of year. Since the job involves working with devices that burn petroleum products, there is some exposure to the product and fumes. The work area ranges from the vehicle to commercial and consumer sites that are occasionally cramped with little headroom. + The position requires frequent driving, standing, walking, and sitting. + There is occasional to frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing. + There is frequent use of the hands/arms to reach, feel, handle, lift or pull. + There is frequent communication involving both talking and listening. Tank Setters move various sized objects weighing from a few ounces to over 100 pounds. When very heavy objects are moved tank setters are expected to seek assistance from other employees.
