The BiomedicalTechnician is responsible for overseeing the overall operationalcondition, maintenance and repair of all water treatment equipment,all medical equipment and mechanical/electrical systems to ensurepatient safety and the safety of all staff operating such equipmentfor their assigned clinic(s).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND

RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties and tasks may be assigned.

  • Demonstrate effective use of supplies and staff labor hours.
  • Assist with purchasing as needed: place orders, perform weekly andmonth end inventory counts.
  • Be familiar with the overallprocedures used in Inventory Control (FIFO) and assist in thedocumentation and control of excess inventory.
  • Perform duties asassigned to meet the patient care or operational needs of theclinic.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain equipment asrecommended by the manufacturer.
  • Repair, calibrate, test, cleanand disinfect dialysis machines, water distribution loop and RO’saccording to protocol.
  • Perform water quality checks to includebut not limited to: free chlorine, total chlorine, and waterhardness testing.
  • Perform safety checks and tests on allpretreatment water equipment including but not limited to carbontanks, water softeners, RO units, UV lamps and ultrafilters.
  • Collect samples of RO water and dialysate for microbiology testingaccording to protocol.
  • Collect water samples for AAMI analysistesting according to protocol.
  • Disinfection of centralbicarbonate system and mixing tank according to protocol.
  • Disinfection of RO, distribution system, and hemodialysis machinesaccording to protocol.
  • Perform duties at all times withinlimitations established by and in accordance with company policyand procedures, applicable state and federal laws and regulations
  • Perform electrical safety on dialysis machines and relatedequipment.
  • Be familiar with instruction manuals and operation forequipment in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Becapable of starting up and shutting down facility’s equipment ifnecessary.
  • Maintain established preventative maintenance programsand required support documentation.
  • Maintain accurate maintenancerecords for the facility’s equipment.
  • Have knowledge of thefunction and safe operation of water treatment equipment andrelated mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Address physicalenvironment issues which could impact patient and staff safety.
  • Mix bicarbonate solution according to protocol. Mix acidconcentrate solution according to protocol.
  • Assist in receiving,storing and stocking of supplies.
  • Be familiar with all emergencyequipment and emergency operational procedures.
  • Use appropriatesafety measures including personal protective equipment asnecessary.
  • Be familiar with OSHA regulations.
  • Update MaterialSafety Data Sheets (MSDS) as required.
  • Be aware of all contractsand contacts necessary for the emergency repair of the clinic’sequipment and mechanical systems.
  • Obtain quotes from reputableand approved contractors as needed to address physical environmentissues.
  • Present technical summaries in QAPI meetings.
  • Maintaincollaborative working relationship with Administrator(s). Partnerwith Administrator(s) to ensure clinic needs are met.
  • Activelypromote GUEST customer service standards; develop effectiverelationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Respondeffectively to inquiries or concerns.
  • Participate in staffmeetings as required. Attend in-service and continuing educationofferings in compliance with company policy and procedure.
  • Complete initial and annual technical training on clinical staff asrequired.
  • Instruct staff in use and care of equipment and answerquestions.
  • Participate in team concepts and promote a teameffort.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must beable to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Requirementsinclude:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’license in applicable state. License must be maintained as current,without restrictions and good driving record.
  • Previous dialysis,hospital, or medical experience preferred.
  • Confirmation ofability to distinguish all primary colors.
  • Ability to react andperform under stress and in emergency situations.
  • Ability tocommunicate and interface effectively with others.
  • Demonstratedworking knowledge of the English language and ability tocommunicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to workindependently as well as with others to plan and organize workassignment.
