Steelworks of the Carolinas is currently hiring a Structural Steel Fitter for second shift. This position is responsible for accurately laying out, fitting, and assembling structural steel components using shop drawings and templates. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, quality-focused, and committed to working safely and upholding our core values: Safety, Workmanship, Others, and Character (SWOC).

Requirements:

Must be authorized to work in the United States Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings and fit-up symbols Basic math skills and ability to use measuring tools accurately Previous experience fitting structural steel preferred

Primary Responsibilities:

Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and weld symbols Accurately lay out and fit structural steel parts and assemblies according to drawings Use measuring tools such as tape measure, square, levels, and plumb bob Operate hand and power tools (grinders, torches, etc.) to prepare components for welding Ensure components are aligned and within tolerance before sending to the weld station Fit beams, columns, stiffeners, and connection plates per job specifications Collaborate with welders to ensure correct sequence and positioning Identify and correct fitting issues before welding Tag and stencil completed work with proper identification numbers Follow all safety protocols and contribute to a clean, hazard-free work area Support and uphold the Steelworks values – SWOC – through actions and attitude Assist supervisors and peers as needed to meet production goals

Tools and Equipment Knowledge:

Tape measure and other layout tools Oxy-fuel torch Grinder Magnetic squares Overhead crane (will train if needed) Basic hand tools and safety gear
