$18.78 hourly Minimum Preparation for

Work:

Graduation from high school or equivalent, and
One (1) year experience in construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of a natural gas distribution system. Two (2) years of related experience may be substituted for one year of natural gas distribution systems experience (i.e., piping, plumbing, appliance repair, underground utilities, or any construction related experience).

Necessary Special Requirements:

Possession of a Class E driver license.
Within six (6) months obtain a Commercial Learners Permit (CLP); and
Within one (1) year of hire date obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License and
Within six (6) months, successfully complete the requirements and standards for Operator Qualifications as prescribed by departmental standards and any other license, training, or certification required by law or regulation.
Must be able to pass the physical requirements for the use of a self-contained breathing apparatus in accordance with OSHA regulations.
Initial and continued employment is based on the applicant’s ability to obtain and maintain the Necessary Special Requirements stated above. Failure to obtain or maintain the required licenses, permits, and qualifications within the specified timeframes or to comply with applicable standards may result in termination of employment.

Nature of Work:

This is semi-skilled mechanical work in the installation of gas facilities. An employee in this class works as a member of a crew engaged in gas distribution and service work under supervision.

Examples of Work:

Digs ditches, unloads pipe, patches streets, and performs other manual labor functions as assigned.
Assists in the repair of gas leaks.
Assist in making taps, locating mains, and leaks.
Assists in maintaining supplies and equipment.
Assists technician with meter change out or removals.
Assists in running new gas lines and services.
Cleans and restores the jobsite.
Operates hand tools, air compressors, jack hammers and concrete saws.
Assist in natural gas installation and maintenance.
Delivers tools and equipment to field crews.
Transports trucks and equipment to fleet maintenance for service work.
Participates in all safety meetings and training opportunities.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in gas distribution and service work.
Skill in the use of pertinent tools.
Ability to withstand working out of doors and under variable weather conditions.
Ability to perform heavy manual work.
Must be able to read, write, and comprehend written instructions.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Must be able to work as part of a team.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
