: No Purpose Of Job This position plays a critical role in supporting the Central Services Department by providing expert technical and planning assistance in the areas of landscape design, native planting initiatives, grant development, and GIS mapping. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating landscape installations in county-owned spaces, identifying and securing alternative funding opportunities, and promoting sustainable land management practices throughout Athens-Clarke County. Job Related Requirements Regular and predictable attendance is essential. May be required to work on religious holidays. Must demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit. When driving a government vehicle, must comply with Athens-Clarke County’s safe driving policy. Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Environmental Design, or related field with at least three years of experience preferred in landscape planning, design, or project coordination; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Valid driver’s license required. Essential Duties, Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Landscape Design & Coordination Plan and oversee landscape installations and native plantings across county rights-of-way (ROW), public facilities, and parks. Collaborate with departments such as GDOT, Leisure Services, and TPW to support landscape-related capital projects. GIS & Technical Mapping Develop and maintain GIS maps and data sets to support planning, grant writing, and reporting. Use GIS tools to support land-use assessments and vegetation management strategies. Grant Management Research funding opportunities; prepare and submit grant applications. Manage awarded grants, including compliance auditing and reporting to ensure adherence to grantor regulations. Strategic Planning & Budgeting Assist in developing annual budgets and long-term capital plans. Support performance measurement, program evaluation, and strategic alignment with department goals. Community Engagement & Education Lead public education and outreach efforts promoting native and sustainable landscaping. Deliver presentations to internal stakeholders, elected officials, community groups, and the general public. Supervision & Team Support Assist with the oversight and development of assigned staff. Contribute to division-wide initiatives and interdepartmental coordination. Professional Development Attend workshops, conferences, and committee meetings Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of native plant species, sustainable horticulture, and landscape architecture principles. Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations related to public land management and grant funding. Proficient in GIS and other mapping technologies. Effective communication skills—both written and verbal—for technical reporting and public engagement. Skilled in budget preparation, strategic planning, and data interpretation. Ability to read and interpret site plans, maps, and construction drawings. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, ArcGIS, and design software (e.g., AutoCAD or SketchUp). Capable of managing multiple projects while meeting deadlines and organizational goals. Supplemental Information (ADA)

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment, including a utility vehicle, computer, printer, calculator, copy machine, facsimile machine, two-way radio, and telephone. Must be able to use body members to work, move, or carry objects or materials.
This position requires:
walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at the levels of those of light work.

Requires the ability to prepare letters, memos, reports, bids, specifications, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak to individuals and/or to groups of people with poise, voice control, and confidence.

: Requires the ability to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques; to acquire and be able to expound on knowledge of topics related to primary occupation; and to make independent judgment in the absence of management.

: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape visually with a variety of machinery and equipment including a utility vehicle, computer, printer, calculator, copy machine, facsimile machine, two-way radio, and telephone.

: Requires the ability to coordinate hands, fingers, and eyes accurately in using equipment. Requires the ability to use the keyboard, lift, bend, push, and pull objects or materials using body parts as the position necessitates.
MANUAL DEXTERITY
: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as engineering equipment, automated office equipment, office supplies, computer supplies, survey equipment, and drafting instruments. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
