Position Summary:
The Log Crane Operator is responsible for safely operating log cranes to load, unload, and transport logs and timber within the sawmill. This role requires adherence to safety protocols and efficient handling of equipment to ensure the smooth operation of forestry and lumber production activities.
Primary Duties:
Operate log cranes and associated equipment to move logs and timber safely and efficiently. Inspect equipment before and after use to ensure it is in safe working condition; report any mechanical issues to management. Follow all safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe work environment. Coordinate with other crew members to ensure effective log handling and transportation. Maintain accurate logs and records of daily operations, including equipment usage and any incidents. Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on the crane and associated equipment as needed. Assist in loading and unloading trucks and other transportation vehicles. Monitor and manage log inventory levels to ensure operational efficiency. Participate in training sessions and safety drills as required.
Required Skills:
Heavy Machinery Experience (Crane Preferred) Proven experience in operating heavy equipment, preferably in forestry or logging operations. Strong understanding of safety regulations and procedures related to heavy equipment operation. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments. Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team. Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks. Comfortable working at heights and in challenging terrain. Knowledge of logging industry practices and equipment. Experience with preventive maintenance of heavy machinery. Familiarity with environmental regulations and practices related to forestry.
