Junior Lumber Grader Position Available In Halifax, North Carolina

Junior Lumber Grader Hardwood Sawmill 1478 Trueblood Rd, Weldon, NC 27890 Lumber Grader Trainee Meherrin River Forest Products is seeking qualified candidates to learn to grade kiln dried hardwood lumber. Meherrin River Forest Products grades hardwood lumber in accordance with NHLA rules and standards and offers in house instruction and training to learn these rules and apply them to our kiln dried hardwood lumber produced on site in our state of the art dry kilns. The lumber grader trainee will learn how to examine both faces of a board to assign a grade or make trimming and edging decisions to increase the value of the piece.

Qualifications:

• Primary responsibility is to work safely and help maintain a safe work environment throughout the facility.
• Basic math skills including fractions and percentages.
• Ability to learn and interpret grading rules by recognizing specific characteristics of each board and accurately apply these at lumber production rates.
• Position requires standing the majority of the shift.
• Physical fitness: this position requires exertion of more than 50 pounds occasionally and more than 20 pounds continuously.
• Experience in the hardwood lumber industry a plus.

Company has multiple locations in Virginia and North Carolina. This opportunity is for the Weldon NC facility.
