This role involves cutting logs into manageable lengths (rounds) before they are put into splitter and prepared for sale. The ideal candidate has experience using chainsaws, understands safe cutting techniques, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Use chainsaws and other equipment to cut logs into rounds suitable for splitting. Measure and ensure consistent log lengths according to company specifications. Inspect logs for defects or foreign objects (e.g. nails, wire) before cutting. Maintain and perform minor repairs on chainsaws and cutting tools. Stack cut rounds neatly for easy handling and transport to the splitter. Follow all safety guidelines and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Keep the work area clean and free from hazards. Assist other team members in production tasks as needed. Use small equipment (Bobcat) to stage firewood for packing.
Qualifications:
Experience using chainsaws in woodcutting, forestry, or firewood setting. Understanding safe chainsaw operation and log cutting techniques. Physically fit; able to lift, carry, and move heavy logs (up to 50 lbs). Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. Ability to work independently and efficiently. Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance. Chainsaw safety certification (preferred but not required).
Work Environment:
Outdoor job sites include log yards and processing areas. Exposure to loud noise, sawdust, and changing weather conditions.
