Gas Service TechnicianAnnual Salary:
$39,855.19

19The City of Alexandria is seeking professional individuals to begin a career in the Gas Department, located in the heart of Central Louisianatoperform skilled and sometimes hazardous tasks in the maintenance and repair of gas lines and meters. Work is performed under the supervision of the Gas General Supervisor. This position is subject to 24-hour call.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervises and performs meter service work: installs, maintains, tests, repairs, adjusts, and inspects regulators, reliefs, control valves, meters, and stations; turns on gas and lights pilots; turns meters on/off as directed by work orders; maintains and updates records and reports on repairs; records meter change-out tickets; repairs meter and gas line leaks in the field.
Provides customer service; contacts customers regarding meter problems; explains tests and repairs performed to remedy problems; discusses billing problems. Performs work in various weather conditions and is subject to 24-hour call-out for emergency situations.
Maintains required inventory; ensures that all required materials are available for work to be performed. Cleans and maintains shop area and equipment according to established policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED; supplemented by three (3) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of gas distribution lines, meters and related equipment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Must possess a valid drivers license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana drivers license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana •Class D drivers license•within one month of hire. Must obtain certifications required from the Office of Pipeline Safety within six months of hire.
Work Schedule:
40 hours per week;may work overtime, including holidays and weekends.
