PSW Pipe – Natural Gas Foreman 3.0 3.0 out of 5 stars Stanley, NC General Description The Natural Gas Foreman supervises field operations for underground utility and natural gas installation projects. This role involves overseeing the safe and productive layout, assembly, and installation of gas utility systems while directly supervising and coordinating the activities of the utility crew. The Natural Gas Foreman also engages in fieldwork as needed and ensures that all work complies with safety regulations, project specifications, and quality standards.
Key Duties Project Oversight & Crew Supervision:
Demonstrates a safety-first mindset and enforces all safety protocols on-site. Directly supervises the gas/utility crew, ensuring work is completed efficiently and within project timelines. Reports daily progress, challenges, and material usage to the Utility Superintendent. Oversees the installation of underground natural gas lines and related infrastructure. Coordinates with survey and inspection teams to ensure proper layout and compliance. Ensures crew productivity meets required production and quality standards.
Technical Expertise & Field Operations:
Proficient in reading and interpreting utility and gas distribution plans, drawings, and specifications. Ensures correct assembly and installation of gas lines, fittings, valves, and regulators. Knowledgeable in trench safety, pipe bedding, soil classification, and gas pipeline standards. Operates and oversees use of heavy equipment required for natural gas utility work. Maintains and updates timecards, production logs, and material usage reports.
Safety & Compliance:
Enforces OSHA, company, and industry-specific safety guidelines (including operator qualification standards). Conducts daily safety briefings, orientations, and coaching sessions. Ensures proper testing of gas lines (e.g., pressure testing) prior to activation. Maintains clean, organized, and hazard-free work zones.
Communication & Coordination:
Communicates professionally with supervisors, contractors, vendors, and field personnel. Collaborates with engineers, utility inspectors, and project stakeholders to ensure project accuracy. Provides real-time updates on field progress and site conditions. Coordinates work with other contractors and trades on shared job sites.
General Responsibilities:
Performs incidental duties and supports other trades as needed. Available for day or night shifts, including weekends, depending on project needs.
Qualification Requirements Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED preferred. 3-5 years of experience as a Natural Gas Foreman or related role preferred. Experience in utility installation, including natural gas, required. Ability to understand and follow work directions and communicate effectively with team and management.
Skills & Competencies:
Deep understanding of gas utility systems, layout methods, and safety protocols. Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, plans, and project specifications. Skilled in operating heavy equipment and tools used in underground utility installation. Effective leadership and team management skills. Familiarity with utility marking systems and One Call/811 processes. Physical Demands Constant physical effort, including standing for extended periods during an 8+ hour work shift. Ability to stoop, bend, crouch, and lift at least 50 lbs frequently and up to 150 lbs with assistance. Maintain constant awareness of multiple concurrent job site activities, including crew movements and equipment operation. Frequently walk on uneven terrain in varying weather conditions. Ability to climb on and off heavy equipment safely. Capable of being certified to enter confined spaces and trenches up to 20 feet deep using ladders or crawling. Work Environment Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Exposure to high noise levels, dust, grease, and materials typical of construction sites. Regular work near heavy equipment and moving machinery. May involve handling materials such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and ready-mixed concrete.
