Knox Auto Parts•Birmingham 3055 35th Ave N., Birmingham, AL 35207 Monday through Friday 8am•5pm Position Overview A heavy equipment operator at a salvage yard is responsible for operating heavy equipment, PAY LOADER to move vehicles around the yard. Their main objective is to assist in moving vehicles in and out of bays, pulling vehicles from the lots, loading them in the dismantle bays, and unloading incoming vehicles. The heavy equipment operator must operate the equipment safely and always be attentive. Overall, the heavy equipment operator plays a crucial role in the efficient and safe operation of the salvage yard. Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions Production•Heavy Equipment Operation Operate heavy equipment to move vehicles in and out of bays and assist in moving vehicles around the salvage yard. This could also include accurately loading and unloading materials and vehicles from trucks and trailers. Quickly and safely move vehicles and other materials around the yard, allowing for a more efficient workflow and faster processing times and meeting productivity targets set by the organization. Ensure proper placement of vehicles in the yard and accurately record vehicle locations. Assist in operating the crusher with end-of-life vehicles. Perform routine inspections such as checking fluids and inspecting equipment for damage. Maintaining a clean and organized work area. Specific responsibilities may vary based on the goals of the salvage yard. 2. Safety Safely load and unload materials and vehicles onto or from trucks and other transportation, following all safety protocols at all times to prevent accidents or injuries. Familiar with safety guidelines such as safe operating procedures and emergency response protocols. Adhere to safety regulations, environmental regulations, and company policies while performing their duties. Ensuring all equipment is properly inspected and following proper lifting and handling techniques to prevent injuries. Wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) Reports any issues to their supervisor. 3. Perform Other Duties as

Assigned Requirements:

Qualifications & Requirements A high school diploma or GED is required. A minimum of one (1) year of experience operating heavy equipment, including loaders and forklifts, is required. Forklift Certificate preferred. Automotive or salvage yard experience is preferred. Contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of the salvage yard while maintaining high professionalism and attention to detail. Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must be able to work effectively alone or with others in a team environment. Works well with others helps foster a positive work environment and effective communication and collaboration among all employees. Must be able to work collaboratively across functions. Share expertise with others. Must be a self-starter with the demonstrated ability to meet timelines and schedules related to essential functions described above. Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
