BACKGROUND CHECK AND DRUG SCREENING IS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
•This is highly skilled work in the operation of complex construction equipment within the Public Works Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operates finish motor grader to grade roadbeds, pull ditches, cut slopes, finish grade lime rock bases and fine grade mixed in asphalt. Operates three or more of the following types of equipment: motor graders, bulldozers, trackhoe, backhoe, front end loader, traffic roller, rotavator and other heavy equipment. Performs routine maintenance checks on equipment and assists mechanics in servicing equipment. Must be able to use a surveyor’s level to determine elevations for projects. Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Requires knowledge of road construction techniques, Florida traffic laws, basic vehicle and equipment mechanics and applicable safety procedures. Must possess ability to finish road beds, finish grade lime rock bases, and fine grade mixed-in asphalt. Must be able to work from simple construction plans to complete projects. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees or organization. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of High school diploma with two years of experience in the operation of light to heavy equipment. Possession of a valid State of Florida CDL Driver’s License with a favorable driving record.
