Veteran Preference Summary:
This class of employee performs semi-skilled work in the operation of several types of mobile motorized medium equipment. Employees in this class are responsible for the safe operation of motorized equipment in the construction and maintenance of county roads or right of way. Examples of types of equipment are: pay loaders, backhoes, graders, dozier and asphalt patch truck. Manual labor related to equipment operations is also performed.
Responsibilities:
Operate dozier, loader, grader, mower, roller etc. for the maintenance of county road right of ways.
Perform routine service, light maintenance and repairs.
Assists mechanics when equipment is being repaired.
As a trainee, may operate other types of heavy equipment.
Performs manual tasks associated with equipment usage.
Perform daily check of fluids in equipment, i.e. oil, water, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Some experience in the operation of varied heavy equipment and a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the following knowledge, skill, and abilities: Considerable knowledge of the practice applied to the safe and skillful operation and care of medium mobile equipment.
Knowledge of all laws and county regulations pertaining to the operation of the equipment.
Ability to make minor repairs to the equipment.
Ability to understand and carry out verbal or written directions.
Ability to safely operate the assigned equipment under all types of weather conditions.
Ability to perform the physical work related to the position.
Skill in the operation of various types of medium and moderately complex equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members.
Qualifications:
Valid Florida Driver’s License for required travel.
Employer conducts background check and motor vehicle record check
High School Diploma or GED.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to see and hear (with or without corrective devices).
Ability to reach, stand, walk, stoop and bend.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
While performing the duties for this job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to fumes, chemicals or airborne particles.
Ability to perform manual labor while exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
