Job Description Primary Function:
Operate and Maintain the Companies HeavyEquipment Duties to include but not limited to equipment operating:
- Utilize and operate machinery for the purpose it was designedwith knowledge of the unit’s capabilities. Must possess the skillsand technique to operate the machinery to its maximum potential,having an inherit feel and finesse to know when said machinery’sworking capability is being compromised or in conflict with anexternal obstacle or utility.
- Daily check the fluid levels and grease equipment asrequired.
- Check the equipment being operated fuel system, lubricants,tires, tracks, rollers, hydraulics for wear or any leaks and reportany problems to the Foreman or Shop Superintendent.
- Monitor the fuel levels of equipment operated and ensure thatample notification is given to the Fueler or Foreman for refuelingto avoid any equipment downtime.
- Monitor the service dates of the equipment operated and notifythe foreman or Shop Superintendent of any service due dates.
- Always pay attention to sound of the equipment operated andreport any unusual noises or sounds.
- Always operate the equipment in a safe manner and be on the lookout for any unsafe conditions on the jobsite.
- Pay particular attention when backing equipment to ensure thepathway is clear of pedestrians or vehicles.
- Ensure that back up alarms are in good working order.
- Never carry passengers on the equipment your operating and neverwear any music or phone headphones or earbuds.
- Never be on your cell phone while operating equipment.
- If operating track mounted equipment always keep the tracks cleanand clear of dirt and debris.
- Always keep equipment clean and perform cleaning activitieswhenever equipment is idle while waiting for the crew to performtheir activities.
- Assist the crew during down time performing laborer tasks.
- Park equipment overnight in locations that are neat and safe andaccessible to the Fueler and install windshield protection devicesand locking devices.
- Always observe fuel fill points for any signs of dirt or debristhat could be the result of tampering by vandals.
- When operating equipment utilizing steel cables always checkcables for any worn or frayed areas and report anything suspiciousto the maintenance personnel.
- Minimize shutting off equipment.
