Position Description
HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR POSITION OBJECTIVES
This is a manual labor position responsible for operating a variety of medium to large sized construction equipment under the general direction of the crew chief.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Those functions actually required to perform this position, the removal of which would fundamentally change the job. These are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. Operates the following pieces of equipment and/or machines: dump truck, dozer, motor grader, front-end loader, boom crane mounted on truck chassis to lift heavy objects, vac-con truck, rubber tire hoe, rubber tire excavator, spider excavator, asphalt roller, asphalt paver and gradall. Transportation of equipment to and from the job site. Lubricates and repairs equipment and attachments Performs routine first echelon maintenance to the equipment Perform pre and post operational checks of equipment Keeps equipment clean both inside and outside Drives equipment to work site and may direct activities of laborers Performs related work as required. These additional duties may be representative of tasks typically performed by those in a lesser or more advanced job description. This position is part of the City’s Emergency Management Team and, as such, shall be expected to perform all duties that are assigned during an emergency management operation. Any additional compensation, above the normal weekly salary shall be outlined by the City Manager in the City’s Emergency Management Activation and Emergency Declaration.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Five (5) years’ experience in the operation and routine maintenance of the type of equipment of primary assignment; Related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations Class A Commercial Driver’s License Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Experience operating equipment listed in the job description. Skill in the operation of heavy construction equipment. Physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions.
