This position involves operating various types of heavy equipment, performing mechanical inspections, and adhering to safety protocols to facilitate the smooth operation of rail logistics. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge and experience with air brake systems, contributing to the overall effectiveness of rail operations. Duties Operate heavy equipment such as locomotives and track maintenance machinery to switch rail cars as needed. Perform regular inspections and maintenance on air brake systems to ensure compliance with safety standards. Collaborate with team members to coordinate the movement of trains and rail cars within the yard. Monitor and report any mechanical issues or safety hazards encountered during operations. Maintain accurate records of switching activities and equipment status. Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to minimize risks associated with rail operations. Skills Proficient in air brake systems and their maintenance. Experience in heavy equipment operation, particularly within a rail environment. Strong mechanical knowledge, enabling effective troubleshooting and repairs. Ability to work in a militarized environment, adhering to strict protocols and procedures. Excellent communication skills for effective teamwork and coordination with other personnel. Qualifications – Internal What you will do: May operate a lift truck with over 15,000 pound capacity Become certified in use of Stationary Overhead Crane and/or mobile crane use Operate or act as ground crew for track/switch engine Operate a scissorlift Follow all safety rules and practices. May be involved in Safety committees or initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned. What you will need : Experience operating a 6,000 to 10,000 pound forklift system 1-2 years related experience This position is essential for maintaining the efficiency of rail operations, requiring a dedicated individual who is committed to safety and excellence in their work.
