OverviewThe Crane and Rigging Manager will provide corporate-level support for crane operations and rigging activities across multiple industrial construction projects nationwide. This role will ensure consistent, safe, and efficient lifting and rigging practices by developing corporate guidelines, conducting site-specific planning, and providing on-site training and inspections. The position involves approximately 75% travel to project sites for operational planning, safety oversight, and personnel development. Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Corporate Support and Project Coordination:

Develop and maintain corporate policies and procedures for crane operations and rigging activities across projects.

Collaborate with project teams to plan critical lifts, review project-specific blueprints, and determine crane and rigging requirements.

Create and review 3D lift plans to ensure precise execution and alignment with safety and operational standards.

Provide expert guidance on equipment selection, scheduling, and resource allocation to optimize operations at multiple project sites.

Operational Planning and On-Site Support:

Travel to project sites to oversee and support crane and rigging activities during critical phases or high-risk operations.

Assist project teams in developing delivery, installation, and lift schedules to meet project deadlines.

Conduct pre-lift planning meetings and ensure all required documentation, such as 3D lift plans, is accurate and complete.

Identify and implement safer and more efficient crane and rigging solutions tailored to each site’s unique challenges

Safety and Compliance:

Standardize safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA, ANSI, and industry regulations across all projects.

Co duct periodic safety inspections at project sites to verify adherence to corporate and regulatory standards.

Develop and deliver training programs for crane operators and rigging personnel, ensuring skill development and knowledge of safety practices.

Support site teams in conducting hazard analyses and addressing safety concerns.

Equipment Management and Optimization:

Work with project teams to coordinate the procurement, transportation, and deployment of cranes and rigging equipment.

Review crane sizing and utilization strategies to optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Conduct regular audits of equipment maintenance schedules and certifications to ensure operational readiness.

Risk Management:

Evaluate risks associated with crane and rigging operations across projects, including environmental factors, equipment limitations, and personnel capabilities.

Conduct pre-lift hazard analyses for critical lifts and collaborate with site teams to develop contingency plans.

Maintain a corporate risk database and track incident reports to implement corrective actions and improve future practices.

Training and Development:

Develop and lead corporate-level training programs for crane operators, rigging personnel, and site supervisors.

Provide mentorship to project teams to enhance skills and ensure consistent application of best practices.

Identify and address skill gaps within project teams and recommend additional training or certifications.

Corporate Oversight and Reporting:

Monitor and evaluate crane and rigging performance metrics across projects to identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.

Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in crane operations, rigging, or heavy equipment management, preferably in industrial construction.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.

Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.

Set a personal example of safe behavior.

Thorough understanding of heavy equipment used on the construction sites.

Proficient in all Microsoft Office suites.

Good understanding of industrial construction activities, equipment and tools.

Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and contracts or governmental regulationWrite reports, business correspondence, and document project activitiesEffectively present information and respond to questions from project managers, superintendents, clients, customers and the general public.

Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, taxes, depreciation, repairs, maintenance, fuel, etc.

Make informed business decisions for the company.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.

May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.

Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.

Uncontrolled environmental conditions: Constant change in weather and site conditions.

This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
