Job Description
Pile Drive Operator – Transmission Line 3.2 3.2 out of 5 stars Washington, NC Position Purpose The Pile Drive Operator is responsible for operating pile driving equipment used to install foundations (such as steel, concrete, or timber piles) for transmission line structures. This role supports the safe and efficient construction of high-voltage power transmission lines and requires experience with heavy equipment operation, site preparation, and adherence to environmental and safety regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate pile driving machinery (such as hydraulic hammers, vibratory drivers, or drop hammers) to drive foundation piles to required depth and alignment. Interpret construction drawings and field layouts to determine pile locations and specifications. Collaborate with site supervisors and ground crews to ensure proper pile placement and quality. Inspect equipment daily to ensure functionality and report any maintenance needs. Adjust machine settings and alignment based on soil conditions and engineering requirements. Monitor pile depth, alignment, and hammer performance, making necessary adjustments to ensure accuracy. Work in coordination with crane operators, riggers, and other crew members. Follow all company safety procedures, including PPE use, site hazard assessments, and equipment lockout/tagout. Complete daily logs and equipment reports as required.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED. 2+ years of experience operating pile driving equipment in utility or heavy civil construction. CDL or CDL Permit and acceptable driving record. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and construction specifications. Strong knowledge of equipment capabilities and maintenance practices. Willingness to travel to various job sites, including remote and rural locations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience on transmission or utility-scale construction projects. NCCCO or equivalent heavy equipment certification. OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
Working Conditions:
Outdoor construction site environment; exposure to extreme weather conditions, noise, and heavy machinery. Physically demanding tasks include climbing, lifting, and standing for long periods. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May require extended hours, weekends, and overnight travel.
