HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR WPB

Field Station 4364BR JobDescription Job Summary and Accountabilities Operates multiexcavation earthmoving equipment to preserve and maintain ditches,canals, and levee systems. Such equipment includes dragline,excavator, backhoe, grader, dozer, front-end loader, dump truck,and knuckle boom. Specializes in installation, removal, and repairof District infrastructure, including weirs, culverts, watercontrol structures, boat ramps, locks and bridges on Districtwaterways, canals, and levees. Inspects equipment for safety issueson a daily basis as well as the condition of the work site prior tosetting up equipment. Ensures adherence to safe work practices andprocedures. Reads and understands signs, signals, load charts,grade stakes, excavation plans, load charts for dredgingoperations, operating manuals and service procedures. Loads, hauls,and dumps material operating a 15-25-yard dump truck, trailer andtransport equipment and machinery on semi-trailer to and from jobsite and its loading and off-loading. Measures and verifies levelsof rock or gravel bases and other excavated material. This positionis subject to random mandatory drug and alcohol testing. Thisposition may be required to participate in the Pumping OperationsProgram as either a pump station assistant or pump stationoperator. Work hours are Monday – Thursday from 6:30 am – 5:00 pm.

Employment Guidelines High School Diploma or GED and 2 years’experience operating and transporting multiple pieces of heavyequipment including: excavation and earthmoving equipment, aquaticharvesters, large farm tractors, dump truck with knuckle boom, andlower unit dragline. Equivalent combination of relevant educationand experience may be substituted as appropriate. The hiring rangefor this position is $48,609.60 to $57,241.60 (based on educationand years of relevant work experience). Licenses Valid State ofFlorida Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with airbrake andtanker endorsements is required. If selected candidate does notcurrently possess CDL, District will provide 3 months from date ofhire to obtain CDL. District willing to pay cost of CDL trainingprogram. Ability to obtain and maintain certification Rigging (onetime certification), Forklift Operations (re-evaluation everyyear), First Aid and

CPR/ AED

(recertification every two years).Ability to obtain pump station assistant status within 6 monthsfrom date of hire and/or placement in job and/or ability to obtainpump station operator status within 12 months from date of hireand/or placement in job. Physical Requirements/ Working EnvironmentDue to the District’s response role and in the total scope ofemergency management, this position may at times, be required toprovide support before, during and after major storm events andemergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declaredemergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.

Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests and operates equipmentto complete assignments. Work environment may be hot and humid withno facilities. Moves or otherwise transports equipment weighing upto 50 pounds or more. This position normally involves daily travelfrom the employee’s assigned station to work sites located withinthe District’s jurisdiction. Some assignments require travel toremote locations and may require travel throughout the state ofFlorida. At times, overnight travel may be required. Overtime willbe required based on weather and/or environmental conditions.
