Position Overview:
CBC Site Development is seeking a highly skilled Lead Pipe Excavator Operator to take charge of field operations on utility installation projects. This role is ideal for an experienced equipment operator with a strong background in deep utility work (water, sanitary sewer, storm drain) who also has leadership experience or is ready to step into a leadership role. You’ll be responsible for running a pipe crew, operating heavy equipment with precision, and ensuring projects stay on track, safe, and up to CBC’s quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate daily excavation activities for the pipe team. Safely and skillfully operate excavators and other heavy machinery (dozers, loaders, skid steers, etc.) Oversee the installation of water, sewer, and storm drain systems, including deep excavations and complex utility crossings. Ensure work is completed to specified grades. Maintain safe trenching practices in accordance with OSHA guidelines. Communicate clearly with Foremen, Project Managers, and Pipe Layers. Perform basic equipment maintenance and ensure machinery is job-ready.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
Proven ability to read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, and pipe layouts. Strong understanding of backfilling techniques and bedding requirements. Experience holding grade “by eye” and using laser levels or GPS as needed. Demonstrated leadership ability. Reliable transportation and consistent work ethic. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in various outdoor conditions.
