OF WORK
As an Equipment Operator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and smooth operation of our roadways, especially during the challenging winter months when snow plowing bes essential. Your contributions extend beyond snow removal to epass work on various construction sites, w your skills directly impact the infrastructure and safety of the traveling public. Each day presents opportunities to tackle manual labor challenges, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and dedication.
In addition to operating heavy machinery, you are entrusted with performing minor repairs and conducting preventative maintenance on your equipment and trucks. Your role also involves meticulous record-keeping, as youplete daily logs and reports to track equipment usage and maintenance history. This documentation is vital for operational efficiency and fosters accountability within the team. Work Schedule and Information:

Full-time Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Travel, overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Successfulpletion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School; or
An equivalentbination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
Must possess a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Conditions of Employment:

All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
All employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
This position requires employees to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
