Job Overview:

Operates heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner to minimize the risk of injury and property damage. Heavy equipment includes, but is not limited to, front-end loaders, dump trucks, Trackmobiles, railcars, container handlers, and yard trucks. The working environment is fast-paced, team-oriented, and includes working outside or in the cabs of equipment, in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Scoops and loads materials with a front-end loader. Drives and operates triaxle dump truck on roads and maneuvers dump truck inside warehouses. Operates Trackmobile to move railcars around rail yard. Couples, uncouples, operates hand brakes, and operates air brake system on railcars. Loads and unloads ISO tank containers on chassis using container handler. Maneuvers container handler around yard; stacks empty and full containers in an orderly and safe manner in the locations indicated. Operates yard truck to pull, transport, load, and unload empty and loaded containers using trailers. Couples and uncouples trailers, connects or disconnects air and electrical lines and changes trailer jack positions. Completes all functions in accordance with operation and safety guidelines. Performs routine inspections on assigned equipment and report deficiencies to the manager. Cleans and maintains equipment including minor equipment maintenance tasks. Performs other duties as assigned.

Specific Skills:

Knowledgeable of the proper use of heavy equipment including dump trucks, front end loaders, container handlers, railcars, and locomotives. Work independently with limited supervision; able to think logically, follow procedures/instructions, and make sound decisions. Experience with Microsoft Excel; computerized inventory systems is preferred.

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Minimum Experience:

3 years of experience with operating heavy equipment or railroad experience

Certifications & Licenses:

Valid driver’s license is required CDL is preferred

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:
N/A Physical Activity:

Possess close visual acuity and acuity to operate machines, motor vehicles, and heavy equipment; ability to climb, walk, finger, grasp, talk, hear, repetitive motion, and exert up to 50lbs of force occasionally, 20lbs frequently and 10lbs constantly.

Working Conditions:

Subject to activities inside and outside, extreme heat for more than one hour, noise levels where one may need to shout to be heard, hazards such as moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in high places, exposure to high heat, chemicals, fumes, and odors.

Job Type:
Full-Time Work Schedule:

6:30am – 3:00pm, Monday-Friday, and occasionally, additional work hours, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Pay:

$21.00 – $27.00/hour depending upon education and experience
