Full Job Description SUMMARY:

The Operator position involves administrative, supervisory, and operational responsibilities in managing day-to-day operations, installation, repair, and replacement activities for a range of site work activities. This position is expected to direct and assist other employees in their daily tasks and activities. Specifically, this position is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance for projects involving sitework, including but not limited to: erosion control bmp assessment and installations, clearing and grubbing, site grading and excavation, storm sewer systems, domestic water and fire water service, sanitary sewer systems and appurtenances, subgrade preparation, subbase installation, asphalt paving, concrete paving, curb and gutter, sidewalk, other concrete foundations, site signage and striping, site stabilization, and other areas ancillary to company operations. This position could assume some or all the duties of another position in the absence of that position.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The Operator works under the direction of the Working Foreman or Superintendent.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Administrative:

    Help other operators and laborers by providing direction to daily job activities. Complete daily Equipment, Pre-task Safety, Excavation, and other Daily reports.

      Machinery Operation:

      Operate all heavy equipment like excavators, dozers, front-end loaders, motor graders, and other related equipment. Proper use of GPS equipment. Ensure and manage the machines or equipment in a safe and secure way. Perform periodical safety, maintenance, or servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of the equipment. Perform minor repair works during functioning problems and advise supervisor when machines need major attention.

        Safety:

        Maintain an environment and lead crew to avoid injury or property damage. Perform periodical safety, maintenance, or servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of the equipment. Perform pre-task safety talks and briefings. Wear proper PPE for the job and ensure other employees are following suit.

          Technical:

          Establish accurate elevations for work being installed/graded/excavated. Perform general layout for work installations. Read and interpret plans to install materials as dictated by the contract documents. Properly spread and level dirt/stone/gravel to meet compactions requirements. Install storm piping in accordance with the methodology established by manufacturers with the supervision of the working foreman or superintendent. Develop knowledge of GPS equipment and how to effectively use on the jobsite.

          GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
          • Ensure work is being efficiently performed.
          • Adapt to changing work conditions/situations to ensure the workday is efficient. This includes leading other employees to do the same.
          • Plan ahead to identify potential issues and conflicts in work schedules, drawings, and other trades.
          • Supervise and communicate both verbally and written.
          • Working knowledge of electronic communication and tools.
          Includes but not limited to:

          email, web based programs for tracking and reporting, and other basic computer skills.

          • Maintain a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
          • Maintain the ability to work outside in various weather conditions
          • Plan and execute assignments as outlined with the superintendent to maintain positive production each week.
          • Lead by example, help others build their knowledge base, and help motivate individuals to get the job done accurately and efficiently.
