Job Title:

Heavy Equipment Operator Job Description We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to efficiently operate various heavy machinery including excavators, bulldozers, motor graders, and support equipment. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of GPS equipment and a strong focus on equipment maintenance and safety. Responsibilities Operate excavators, bulldozers, motor graders, front end loaders, rubber tire backhoes, mini-excavators, skid steers, off-road trucks, and rollers efficiently. Utilize GPS equipment, including machine control and GPS rover, to meet or exceed bid production. Perform preventive equipment maintenance, such as greasing and checking oil/fluid levels and filters. Ensure equipment cleanliness, including tracks, cabs, and windows. Conduct thorough daily equipment inspections and document them using daily equipment inspection forms. Secure equipment properly each day, ensuring windows and doors are closed and locked, and equipment is parked in a safe location. Maximize equipment utilization and promptly report any equipment problems to the project foreman or superintendent. Essential Skills Proficient in operating bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, skid steers, rollers, and motor graders. Knowledge of GPS equipment, including Topcon and Trimble GPS for fine grading and GPS localization. Minimum of 3 years of construction experience or a combination of education and experience. Ability to read and understand plans and specifications. Familiarity with the principles, methods, and standards of the designated trade area. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with heavy equipment operation in a safe and effective manner. Ability to perform work according to standards and specifications. Support and comply with Health, Safety & Environmental Program, Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace, and Harassment Free Work Environment Program. Work Environment The work environment involves working outside on civil development sites, dealing with various weather conditions. Tasks must be performed in a safe and efficient manner, with summer temperatures being hot and winter conditions being wet and cold. Work hours are Monday-Friday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, with overtime on rotating Saturdays. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Charleston, South Carolina. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 – $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
