Full Job Description Position Summary:

Smokin Oaks Organic Farms is seeking a reliable and skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. This role involves operating, maintaining, and transporting farm machinery and heavy equipment used for agricultural operations, land preparation, livestock management, and facility maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate heavy farm equipment, including but not limited to tractors, skid steers, backhoes, front-end loaders, semi truck/trailer, dump truck and other machinery as needed. Perform daily pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance on equipment to ensure safe, efficient and correct machine operation. Transport feed, livestock materials, and other goods across farm property and to various facilities. Assist with ground preparation, planting, harvesting, land clearing, fence installation, and facility maintenance projects. Support feeding and care routines for livestock when necessary. Safely tow and transport heavy trailers and machinery between farm locations. Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations. Maintain detailed equipment logs and report any issues to the farm manager immediately. Help with general farm labor tasks as needed during downtime.

Qualifications:

Proven experience operating heavy agricultural or construction equipment.( Green Star- John Deere experienced preferred but, not required). Valid driver’s license, (CDL preferred) Strong understanding of farm operations and equipment mechanics. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. Physical ability to lift 50+ pounds, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and handle physically demanding tasks. Basic mechanical knowledge for minor repairs and troubleshooting. Commitment to workplace safety and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with cattle, hogs, or other livestock. Ability to weld or perform basic fabrication Forklift certification (a plus).

Work Environment:

Outdoor farm and ranch environment; exposure to dust, mud, livestock, and varying weather conditions. Weekend work and extended hours during peak seasons may be required.
