EQUIPMENT OPERATOR – PUBLIC WORKS

City of Brentwood TN Brentwood, TN Description Seeking candidates for Equipment Operator at the City of Brentwood, TN Brentwood Public Works Department Starting salary is $44,886.40. Up to 5% salary increase after successful completion of probationary period.

Plus:

Transportation Allowance of $1600/year to be paid over 26 pay periods annually and Commercial Driver’s License supplement of $2000/year to be paid over 26 pay periods annually for active and valid CDL. The City of Brentwood seeks a dedicated team player to join its Public Works team as an Equipment Operator. The City of Brentwood, located in scenic Williamson County, is considered one of the most desirable suburban locations in Tennessee. The city is known for its strong business community, quality schools, abundant recreational activities, and high standard of living. It sits just south of Nashville and has a population of approximately 46,000 residents. The Equipment Operator will be a part of the Brentwood Public Works Department. Public Works maintains over 500 lane miles of roadway and right-of-way, maintains and replaces street signs, collects brush from each residence once per month, performs right-of-way mowing, and street sweeping. The Public Works Department also maintains the storm sewer infrastructure including culverts, catch basins, and a few hundred miles of open ditch. They maintain 53 traffic signals, the City’s fiber optic infrastructure, school flashers, and license plate reading cameras. The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining heavy equipment and providing heavy manual labor associated with road construction and maintenance, drainage, erosion, and signage as part of the Public Works team. Duties and Responsibilities Operates heavy equipment and machinery used in street and roadside construction and maintenance, like a small bulldozer, Gradall, tractor, pup roller, back-hoe, single/double axle truck, grapple truck, mower, edger, chipper, chainsaw, and other equipment as required. Performs maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment/machinery in good working condition. Provides heavy manual labor functions for landscaping and roadside projects, like cutting trees, spreading salt or gravel, patching roads, removing trash/litter, cleaning ditches/storm drains, sweeping, mopping, cleaning, etc. Performs labor-related duties involving bricklaying, pipe laying, sign installation, asphalt repair, right-of-way maintenance, etc.; assists in repairing storm drainage lines as instructed.

The ideal candidate:

Is someone who enjoys working outdoors. Has experience operating various types of equipment, regardless of industry. Can work independently and as a team player. Has a valid Tennessee Commercial Driver’s License or willingness to obtain within six months of hire. Is committed to serving the public while becoming a strong member of the Public Works team. Minimum Training and Experience Required High school diploma (or GED) required, with one to two years of construction, heavy equipment operation, and maintenance labor experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. A valid Commercial Driver’s License is required within six months of hire. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines, tools, and equipment which includes a heavy motor vehicle, small bulldozer, tractor, pup roller, back-hoe, single/double axle truck, mower, edger, chipper, chain saw, hand tools, mechanic tools, lawn tools, janitorial tools, etc. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert in excess of one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of fifty pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for very heavy work.

Requires the ability to learn and understand basic to complex principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to the job of Equipment Operator

Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have average levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

COLOR DISCRIMINATION

Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.

INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT

Requires the ability to deal with people (i.e. staff, supervisors, general public, and officials) beyond giving and receiving instructions such as in interpreting departmental policies and procedures. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal stress when confronted with an emergency related to the job of Equipment Operator
