Ferreira is currently ranked #180 on the Engineering News-Record (ENR) top 400 contractors. Ferreira Construction is looking for experienced skilled Pipe Layers to join our team. These individuals will be responsible for completing tasks on a construction site according to blueprints to create structurally sound buildings and other structures. Their duties include erecting scaffolding, unloading construction materials and operating heavy machinery, to pouring concrete and demolishing buildings.

Necessary Functions:

Able to work in crews that lay underground water, sewer, or storm utilities. Must know OSHA safety standards Needs to know the material types and specifications, and how to install flanged, flex, restraint joints, push joints and mechanical joint pipe. Knowledge of proper trenching and shoring techniques, soil types, and dewatering strategies, as well as optimum moisture, density, and compaction requirements. Taking apart or constructing scaffolding, bracing and other temporary structures for the construction site Digging trenches and backfill holes to prepare for the construction site Operating equipment and heavy machinery used in construction sites Following instructions from construction project managers, supervisors and foremen Loading and unloading building materials Cleaning the construction site by removing hazards materials and debris from the worksite Assisting craft workers such as carpenters or electricians with their duties, if needed

Experience:

High school diploma or, GED Have strong work ethic. 2+ Years experience laying underground water, sewer, or storm utilities preferred Experience operating heavy equipment including excavators, backhoes, front-end loaders, skid steers or dozers a plus. Reliable employee. Must be detail oriented. Have great communication skills. Must be a self-starter.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Ability to lift 50 lbs when necessary during the course of performing their necessary duties. Work outside during all types of weather. Work under time constraints efficiently and have the ability to work well with others. Follow all company procedures. If you need a copy of procedures, please see your superintendent. Keep company vehicles clean, maintenance done regular, and only use for company business. Demonstrate knowledge of proper, safe use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in the heavy construction industry Effectively communicate skills to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions Show responsibility for job site safety Have reliable transportation – are willing to commute to job sites throughout northeast Florida (within 30 miles of Jacksonville) Work 40-50 hours per week – Saturdays as needed.
