Qualifications and Detail about the Position Broad Function A Level 1 rope access technician job duties may vary from site to site, however the main responsibilities of a Level 1 rope access technician include cleaning and preparing a job site, loading and delivering materials, sorting and organizing rope access equipment, perform assigned work tasks at height, provide general labour at height under the supervision of the L3 supervisor.

Essential Functions Promote, demonstrate and instill Brock’s Bsafe and Bbest culture in all aspects of the business Comply with all manufacturer’s specifications Perform work in accordance with Contractor Specifications Capable of understanding and supporting more complex rigging. Demonstrate the skills and knowledge required of Level 1 rope access technicians. Take direction from the supervisor Follow the applicable Brock, Contractor, and governmental safety requirements Support rescues in various situations. Complete safety paperwork such as FLRA’s, Sharp Cards, etc. Other duties as assigned by level 2, 3 or supervisor Utilize the installed rope access systems to safely perform tasks at height. Assures that the proper equipment is being used for the specified tasks. Help develop and implement rigging and rescue plans. Understand relevant work techniques and legislation Possess an up to date valid first aid certificate. Keep current all safety tickets and trade certifications or tickets as required by trade or site. Working Conditions / Physical Requirements Meet Brock’s Fit For Duty Program Ability to meet and maintain customer requirements for site access Work in an indoor and outdoor environment including field, yard, shop locations, and office. Necessary Personal Protective Equipment is required. Travel as required Working at heights Must be able to work in all types of environments, extreme heat or cold Work for 8 hours at a time in an environment where temperatures may reach from 0 to 60 C, both indoors and outdoors in the sun. Able to work in confined spaces Work in an environment in which vibrations and noise are moderate to severe and noise level may require the wearing of hearing protection devices. Work in confined spaces for 4-7 hours per day; stand or walk for long periods. Able to wear a full-face respirator for extended periods. Utilize the installed rope access systems to safely perform tasks at height. Stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. may require the wearing of hearing protection devices. Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds often and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Maintain footing on surfaces which are sometimes slippery. See well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colors. Hear well (naturally or with hearing aid). Must be able to effectively communicate with other employees and supervision. Use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and feel objects; and coordinate well the use of hands or fingers and eyes. Must have reliable transportation to and from the work location, as required.

ORIENTATION
  • Must be able to successfully pass Brock and/or Safety Council Site Specific Orientation requirements.
HEAVY WORK
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds of force from the floor to the waist and 35 pounds of force from the waist to above shoulder.
CLIMBING
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and the like, to elevations in excess of 100 feet, to maintain three-point contact at all times. LADDERS

  • Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, on unprotected elevated surfaces using fall protection equipment; or maintaining body equilibrium when performing scaffold construction at elevations using fall protection equipment. Frequently

STOOPING
  • Bending body downward and forward by bending at the waist, requiring full use of the leg and back muscles on a repetitive basis. Frequently

KNEELING
  • Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Occasionally
  • Activity exists up to 40% of the work shift.
CROUCHING
  • Bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and waist. Frequently

REACHING
  • Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in order to receive materials from ground level weighing up to 50 pounds as it is being passed and 35 pounds from overhead. Frequently

GRIPPING
  • Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands to receive materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Picking, pinching, or otherwise working with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling. Frequently

  • Have 20/40 vision with or without correction in at least one eye. HEARING
