Job Description An Ingalls Pipefitter, also referred to as a Journeyman Pipefitter, is responsible for fitting pipe consisting of various materials such as steel, galvanized, copper, copper-nickel and stainless along with the appropriate valves and fittings, utilizing various tools and equipment in accordance with drawing, arrangements and blue prints. Ingalls shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with most every position in the shipyard, a Pipefitter may be required to work either day or night dependent upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time. Ingalls stresses the practice of working safely in all situations with safety procedures meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards. Basic Qualifications Must have either two yeard of Pipewelder experience or be a graduate from a pipe weldr program at a vo-tech school or other training school. Program must have training in TIG root and stick fill and cap on steel piping in the 6GR position.
