This position reports to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor I at a multi-custody female correctional facility. This position performs full range journey level duties in the installation maintenance & repair of air, gas, oil, water and waste disposal systems. Other duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Possessing a working knowledge of the methods of installation repair of commercial plumbing systems as well as safety precautions of the plumbing trade.
Possessing skills in the use of tools, material & equipment commonly used in the performance of this trade.
Being familiar with buildings, life and safety codes.
Cutting and threading pipe utilizing motorized and mechanical tools.
Soldering copper pipe and utilizing the standard tools and materials required for this procedure.
Generating material lists for projects and submitting to supervisor for review.
Possessing knowledge and skills in working with commercial kitchen equipment.
Making up lead joints and installing various types of plastic pipe.
Possessing the knowledge and ability to replace stainless steel and porcelain plumbing fixtures in a correctional facility
Possessing the skills and abilities to use all hand and power tools associated with the plumbing trade.
Being available and subject to emergency call back.
Supervising offenders engaged in semi-skilled work.

January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state’s pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. The new salary range(s) will be $37,782 – $66,120.”

The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.
About North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW):
North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women, in Raleigh, is the state’s primary correctional facility for women. It houses the largest offender population in the state and serves as the support facility for the state’s other female prisons. The campus-style facility sits on 30 acres of a 190-acre tract of state land in southeast Raleigh. NCCIW houses offenders of all custody levels and control statuses, including death row, maximum, close, medium, minimum, safe-keepers and youth. It provides the primary medical, mental, and alcohol and chemical dependency treatment for female offenders.
The facility operates a diagnostic center that serves as the point of entry into the prison system for women. Upon arrival, offenders undergo a series of diagnostic evaluations that will determine future prison assignments.
