About our
Department:
The General Services Department consists of several divisions in different locations throughout the City. The Facilities Projects Division manages new construction, additions, and alterations of City-owned buildings and parks. The Maintenance Division oversees the maintenance and janitorial services of City-owned structures and properties.
General Services Plumber Position Overview:
This is state certified journey level commercial and industrial plumbing work performing maintenance, repair, and installation work on facilities and equipment. Work involves performing plumbing repair, maintenance, and installation work on buildings and machinery in City owned facilities, parks, and recreational buildings.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency or graduation from a technical college accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education with experience and proficiency in plumbing at the journeyman level; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class B is required or must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire and/or promotion date.
Possession of a valid State of Alabama certified journeyman plumbing or gas fitters certificate or an apprentice plumbing or gas fitters certificate with the equivalent amount of years of experience as a journeyman.
