Plumber – 2nd Shift (12:00 pm – 8:00 pm)
The Town of Stratford is currently accepting applications for the
position of 2nd Shift Plumber.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This is skilled plumbing work involving the installation and repair of plumbing systems in Town owned building and facilities.
Work involves responsibility for handling a variety of plumbing installations and fixtures. Duties include installing, maintaining and repairing such items as pipes, valves, drains, pumps, and heating boilers and systems. The work requires that employees understand plumbing practices, methods, tools and equipment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of an Assistant Building Maintenance Superintendent.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Performs plumbing work in the installation and maintenance of a variety of toilet, kitchen, lavatory, heating, gas, oil, compressor, sewer, and other facilities; installs, clears, and repairs hot and cold-water pipes, water heating tanks, faucets and other pipes and fixtures.
• Diagnoses trouble in plumbing systems or equipment, hot water and steam boilers and systems.
• Responds to emergency calls, during water outages or breaks in water lines; inspects facilities for damage and performs temporary repairs.
• Maintains records and reports of equipment and supplies used.
• May direct the work of assigned helpers.
• Performs related work as required.

KMOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Good knowledge of plumbing practices, methods, tools and equipment.
• Good Knowledge of plumbing and building codes and standards of safety precautions.
• Good knowledge of pipefitting and fixtures needed to maintain buildings in a proper manner.
• Good skill in the use of tools and instruments used in performing plumbing work.
• Good ability to read engineering drawings, sketches and other specifications.
• Good ability to lift equipment and materials to be installed.
• Good ability to plan, assign, and review the work of helpers.
• Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, associates, contractors, vendors, and other municipal officials.

QUALIFICATIONS

A high school or trade diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years of successful plumber’s apprenticeship experience in an approved State program.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have Plumbing License (P-2) for Connecticut.
Must have a valid Class 3 Connecticut driver’s license.

SALARY RANGE

$78,316.25 – $97,896.53
