GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Performs plumbing trade work in the construction, maintenance and repair of assigned county property, structures and equipment.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Performs installation, modification to plumbing systems to include construction & maintenance repairs on commercial, facilities, equipment and other county property and parks.
- Reads blueprint drawings, specifications, and technical drawings to determine the layout and installation requirements.
- Identify and troubleshoot plumbing issue, including leaks, clogs, and malfunctions and implement solutions for repair.
- Works, engages and communicates with contractors and employees performing general or specialized work throughout the county; assists and supports contractors in maintenance and plumbing repair work.
- Operates various hand-held manual, electrical and gas-powered tools and equipment (i.e., drills, pipe cutters, torches, and propresses).
- Maintains accurate records of work performed, materials used, and hours worked and submit required documents on time.
- Repairs and installs fuel systems and lines for underground fuel storage tanks and Malathion tanks.
- Performs maintenance and repair on gas lines in county buildings.
- Maintains and ensures the safe operating condition of assigned equipment, tools and vehicles, according to established department policy and sound trade practices.
- Assists in assigning and monitoring tasks for subordinate staff.
- Reports any detected deterioration, repair needs and/or maintenance needs to supervisor.
- Operates heavy equipment as necessary.
- Performs general tasks of other trades as needed.
- Assists with the planning, estimating and coordination of tasks.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience:
High school diploma or GED supplemented by four (4) years of specific experience that provides the ability to perform skilled to advanced-skilled plumbing trade tasks, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience in a supervisory or lead capacity preferred. Licenses and/or
Certifications Required:
Requires a valid driver license. Requires a valid Class “B” commercial driver license (“CDL”), depending on assignment, within one (1) year of hire. County plumbing license preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to operate various hand-held manual, electrical and gas-powered equipment and tools, where excellent eye/hand/foot coordination is essential for safe and productive operations. Must be able to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push and pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of standing/walking. Requires full range of body motion in manipulation of limbs and torso for working on scaffolding, climbing ladders, etc. Requires excellent equilibrium to prevent falling from narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work.

Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information. Requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions.
