Position Overview:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced plumbing professional to join our team as a Plumbing Apprentice Instructor. The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and facilitate the classroom and hands-on instruction of apprentice-level trainees and train apprentices through a structured, hands-on curriculum in accordance with industry standards and apprenticeship program requirements. The instructor will be responsible for delivering curriculum content, supporting student development, assessing performance, and ensuring that apprentices gain the skills and knowledge needed to become successful journeypersons in the plumbing and pipefitting trades.
What you will be doing:
Deliver engaging instruction to entry level plumbing and pipefitting apprentices in a hybrid classroom/lab environment. Deliver classroom and lab-based instruction covering a wide range of topics, including: Blueprint reading and schematic reading Basic Pipefitting systems and techniques Plumbing codes, standards, and regulations Hydronics, gas systems, and drainage systems Safety practices (OSHA standards) Tool use, layout, installation, and troubleshooting Piping system installation Provide hands-on demonstrations and supervise practical training projects. Track and report apprentice progress, attendance, and completion in compliance with internal standards and apprenticeship guidelines through quizzes, exams, lab assessments, and attendance records. Develop, adapt, and update instructional materials, lesson plans, and instructional approaches as needed to accommodate diverse learning styles and skill levels. Maintain lab equipment, tools, and materials in good working order; enforce safety rules at all times. Collaborate with other instructors and administrative staff to continuously improve program outcomes and training quality and to ensure program quality and relevance. Participate in occasional outreach activities (e.g., open houses, employer partnership meetings, etc.). Provide constructive feedback and support to apprentices to help them succeed in both technical and soft skills. Stay current on industry trends, code updates, and best practices in plumbing and pipefitting.
Qualifications Required:
Journeyperson or Master Plumber license Minimum 5 years of experience in the plumbing and/or pipefitting trade Strong working knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and safety procedures Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to individuals with varying levels of experience and diverse backgrounds Basic digital literacy, including comfort with email, training software, and digital attendance/grade systems Ability to teach evening or weekend classes may be required based on program needs
Preferred:
Prior teaching, mentoring, or training experience in a vocational or apprenticeship setting
OSHA 10/30
certification or other safety credentials Ability to complete instructor certification as required by apprenticeship managing organization
Work Environment and Schedule:
