Job Summary:

Milam Plumbing, Inc., is a top provider of plumbing services to the new home construction market and to the largest builders in Southeastern North Carolina. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Licensed or Journeyman Plumber to help train plumbing technicians. This position involves providing hands-on, real-world training while working with Milam Plumbing, ensuring the next generation of plumbers is equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the industry.

Job Summary:

As a Lead Plumbing Instructor with Milam Plumbing, you will have the opportunity to pass on your expertise and experience to technicians, guiding them through practical plumbing tasks in real-world scenarios through our Plumbing Technician Apprenticeship Program. The Lead Plumbing Instructor is responsible for teaching and training Technicians in the field of plumbing technology, ensuring they gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience to meet industry standards. The instructor will deliver engaging lessons, supervise practical training, and assess progress, preparing them for careers as professional plumbing technicians’ .You will work directly with newly hired plumbing technicians, providing on-the-job training and mentorship.

Duties/Responsibilities:
    On-the-Job Training:

    Train newly hired plumbing technicians, by providing hands-on experience and instruction in residential and commercial plumbing systems.

      Mentorship:

      Serve as a mentor to technicians, helping them apply theoretical knowledge to practical plumbing tasks and instilling important trade skills, safety practices, and professional work ethics.

        Safety & Compliance:

        Ensure all technicians follow proper safety protocols, plumbing codes, and industry standards while on the job.

          Leadership:

          Take the lead in overseeing technicians during daily tasks, offering guidance, feedback, and troubleshooting assistance when needed.

            Skill Development:

            Assist technicians in developing essential plumbing skills, including installation, maintenance, repair, and problem-solving.

              Progress Monitoring:

              Assess the technician’s performance, provide constructive feedback, and offer guidance on areas for improvement.

                Collaboration:

                Work closely with management to ensure training aligns and meets industry standards.

                Skills/Abilities:
                • Experience in training technicians or working with educational programs.
                • Ability to adapt teaching methods to different learning styles.
                • A proactive, positive attitude and a passion for teaching the next generation of plumbers.
                • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, tools, codes, and safety regulations.
                Education and Experience:
                  Experience:

                  A minimum of 5 years of hands-on plumbing experience, including experience with both residential and commercial plumbing. Must be knowledgeable about current plumbing codes and safety standards.

                    Leadership & Management Skills:

                    Proven ability to lead, manage, and motivate others, especially in a training or supervisory role.

                      Training & Communication Skills:

                      Strong communication skills to teach and explain complex plumbing concepts and techniques to technicians with varying levels of experience.

                        Patience & Professionalism:

                        Ability to work effectively with technicians, providing clear guidance and maintaining a supportive and professional environment.

                          Safety Conscious:

                          In-depth knowledge of plumbing safety practices and the ability to impart this knowledge to technicians.

                          Physical Requirements:
                          • Ability to work in a construction environment
                          • Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and occasionally up to 100 pounds
                          • Ability to work outside or inside, sometimes exposed to high heat or low temperatures
                          • Ability to climb ladders or stairs and work either above ground or in tight spaces
