Trades Worker – Plumber Share link Go back Apply for this job Category Classified Location(s) Facility Services Description An individual in this class performs journey level duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of air, gas, water, and waste disposal systems. Routine work assignments are in the nature of location of needed repair, and assignments involving work of special or unusual nature are accompanied by specific instructions. The incumbent exercises considerable independence in performance of routine work, but unprecedented assignments are usually discussed with or supervised by a foreman. Responsibilities Cuts, threads, assembles, and installs pipe; connects valves, caulks joints and tests finished job by allowing water to flow through. Installs gas, water, and sanitary fixtures and equipment with their supports, hangers, or foundations. Performs the assembling of lead pipe sections and fittings, and the hanging or laying of assemblies into position. Analyzes defects or malfunctions in plumbing systems; eliminates leaks by repacking valves or by replacing faulty fitting or sections in line; replaces worn parts and performs similar duties necessary to correct problems. Performs related duties as required. Work is reviewed by the foreman through inspection of work in progress and on the basis of satisfactory operation of equipment repaired or installed. Experience/Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent is required. Three years of progressive experience in the repair, replacement, or construction of piping systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of plumbing systems. Working knowledge of the safety precautions of the plumbing trade. Skill in the use of tools, materials, and equipment commonly used in the performance of plumbing work. Ability to assume responsibility of lead worker in the performance of plumbing repair and installation. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Salary Range Operational Support, BG6 Salary Range $17.75-$28.01 per hour based on evaluation of employment history. 240 days per year 8 hours per day
