Sailboat Rigger TPG Marinas Noank, CT 06340
Position Overview :
The Sailboat Rigger will effectively and efficiently install, maintain, repair, and replace sailboat rigging and sail systems. Sailboat Riggers are mechanically inclined and experienced in the use of basic hand tools, air tools and electric power tools. The Rigger will be a year-round position for candidates willing to do other tasks in the off-season around the yard not pertaining to rigging. TPG Marinas is a nationwide owner and operator of marina businesses and other waterfront real estate. We have evolved our approach to marina management through over 30 years in the hotel and hospitality industry. Whether we are an investor, owner or third-party operator, TPG is committed to bringing success to capital partners as entrusted stewards of marina business and waterfront real estate assets. Noank Shipyard and Spicer’s Marina is a marina and service yard in Groton, CT. We have three locations on the island. We are looking to provide onsite/mobile service to our locations and potentially personal residences on the island. Responsibilities Un-step and step masts. Assemble and disassemble spars. Tune standing rigging. Connect and troubleshoot mast lights and wiring. Install booms, sails, running rigging. Prepare sailboats to safely sail. Splice lines, service winches and furling systems-both manual and electrical/hydraulic. Service sailboat steering systems and deck hardware. Wax and clean spars. Inspect and estimate repairs. Must possess own tools. Follow TPG Safety and Environmental rules, willingness to take training. Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area. Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately. Any other duties as assigned by TPG Marinas and the direct Manager. Adapts quickly and efficiently to changing priorities to meet company or member needs. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Sailing knowledge, familiarity with boats and nomenclature preferred Hoisting/Crane Operator experience preferred. Previous experience preferred, willing to train. Must carry own tools. Basic boat handling skills preferred. Must be able to go aloft. Experience with both gas and diesel engines preferred. Ability to work on-site at Spicer’s and Noank in Groton, CT. Ability to occasionally lift up to 70 lbs regularly and 100 lbs on occasion with team assist or lifting tools. Able to stand for extended periods and occasionally kneel, stoop, bend and twist in tight areas. Comfortability with ladders and confined spaces is required. Ability to work in the elements regularly. All candidates must be ready, willing, and able to work a fully flexible work schedule that may include days, nights, weekends and holidays to meet the fluctuating business demands.
