Sling/Rigging Technician 5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars Houma, LA 70364 The Sling/Rigging Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and testing of slings and related lifting equipment used in various industrial and commercial applications. This role ensures the safe and efficient operation of lifting systems by providing high-quality services, adhering to safety standards, and maintaining accurate records of inspections and repairs.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspection & Maintenance :

Perform regular inspections of lifting slings, rigging hardware, and associated equipment to ensure they are in safe working condition. Identify any wear, damage, or non-compliance with safety standards and take appropriate action.

Repairs & Fabrication :

Repair or replace damaged slings, including those made of metal, wire rope, and synthetic materials. Fabricate custom slings based on specifications for specialized lifting needs.

Load Testing :

Conduct load testing on slings and lifting systems to verify they meet required weight capacities and safety standards.

Safety Compliance :

Ensure all slings and lifting equipment meet local and international safety regulations and industry standards. Follow best practices for rigging and lifting safety to prevent accidents or equipment failures.

Documentation :

Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs, and load tests for all equipment. Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies by documenting all relevant activities and providing certificates when required.

Customer Service :

Interact with clients, providing advice and technical expertise on proper sling usage, maintenance, and safety protocols. Assist with troubleshooting and resolving issues as needed.

Inventory Management :

Assist with the management of inventory for sling materials, hardware, and tools. Ensure that the shop is adequately stocked with materials needed for repairs and fabrication.

Continuous Improvement :

Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, safety standards, and new technologies related to lifting and rigging systems. Participate in training to continuously improve technical skills.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require specialized certifications). Proven experience in rigging, sling maintenance, or related lifting equipment fields. Knowledge of lifting equipment, slings (chain, rope, synthetic), and rigging hardware. Familiarity with safety regulations (OSHA, ASME, or other relevant standards). Ability to operate and maintain basic workshop equipment (cutters, sewing machines, welding equipment, etc.). Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in physically demanding environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in rigging, sling inspection, or other relevant lifting certifications (e.g., NCCCO, CIC). Experience in a workshop or industrial setting. Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, or welding techniques.
