About the
Role:
The Street Maintenance Crew Member is responsible for performing general maintenance on the City’s streets infrastructure. Primary duties include operating job-specific equipment (i.e. single axle and tandem axle dump trucks); and pouring and finishing concrete. This includes repairs to sidewalks, curb & gutters, and traffic islands. Other duties include driving a truck and operating equipment during the snow and ice program. This position requires working in and around traffic and heavy equipment. The selected applicant must be able to follow verbal and written instructions. The City of Greensboro pays employees Bi-Weekly, and the position is assigned to a 40-hour work schedule, which is typically Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch. This schedule is subject to change during a holiday week or for emergency service which may require working a flexible schedule with little or no notice and may include weekends, nights, or holidays. This employee will be assigned to the snow and ice removal program and will be subject to working 12-hour shifts during winter or other weather-related events. This employee must have good attendance and must maintain a reliable means of contact (i.e. home or cellular telephone). The physical duties include standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, walking on uneven surfaces, shoveling, and heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. Work is performed outside in all weather conditions. This employee must obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s Permit within 30 days of employment; and a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement within 120 days of employment to remain in the position. High School Diploma/GED with less than 1 year of experience or training in concrete construction (e.g., pouring and finishing concrete for sidewalks, curb & gutters, and traffic island installation). “OR” No High School Diploma/GED with 1 year of experience or training in concrete construction (e.g., pouring and finishing concrete for sidewalks, curb & gutters, and traffic island installation). Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications:
3+ years of experience or training in concrete construction
